Steel/Psychics primed for a boost?

A Jirachi event has been announced for next month... but only in Japan. What a surprise. And of course, because it's Japan-only it has to be shiny and have an interesting event only move. I say interesting to be vague on purpose, because it could either revolutionize Jirachi play and propel it right back into OU, or do absolutely nothing like Draco Meteor did. I'm talking, of course, about Moonblast. Great choice, considering Jirachi's one of those fairy-like Pokémon that weren't retconned, and Serene Grace makes an amazing combination with it. Imagine a Calm Mind set running this thing. 60% chance of lowering special attack, on top of whatever boosts Calm Mind gets you. I'm drooling at the cheesiness here, even though physical sets are bog standard and special sets, just about never seen. Even so, if there's one thing that could make them more interesting, it's gotta be Serene Grace Moonblast (which Togekiss might also need considering its stay in OU is almost over).

As for Mega Metagross, remember that THIS IS STILL UNCONFIRMED because the scans we have so far are blurry, but it seems it will get Tough Claws as its ability. For the record, this is basically a free Life Orb boost on all of its contact moves, which include, well, every attacking move it ever uses bar Earthquake. Meteor Mash, Zen Headbutt, the elemental punches, Bullet Punch, Hammer Arm... it's safe to say that after the crushing disappointment Mega Sableye was, they knocked it right out of the park here. Unless they end up giving it a big special attack boost like they did Garchomp, I mean.

Unrelated side note: I'm amused at the fury directed at those contest Pikachus. As if we've all collectively forgotten Ukulele Pichu.

  1. As a general rule, Steel was OP because it was the only foil to Dragon, even moreso than because of the other 11 types it resisted or was immune to. It doesn't suddenly suck, and I expect its effectiveness to Fairy to matter a great deal when more good Fairies are introduced. Heck, it's not like Steels are struggling right now - the top Pokémon on the ladder is a Aegislash, then you have Excadrill at #4, Heatran at #5, Scizor at #8, Bisharp at #15, Mawile at #18, Ferrothorn at #21 and Skarmory at #23, with an honorable mention for the banned Mega Lucario and Genesect.

So you know what? Steel is the best type in the whole damn game right now, and if they didn't take away its resistances to Dark and Ghosts they would've had to introduce three new types in gen 7 just to balance it. You know what that means: I'm going to keep bitching that Poison should be super-effective against it for a few more years.

  2. To be fair, not all of us play the Pokemon Ranger games so a lot of us never heard of Ukulele Pichu. Plus, Pichu isn't as all invasive as another yellow electric rodent that a certain idiot anime trainer always uses because TPCI likes merchandise money. But two pages worth of this!? It's too much man, even if we should be used to such things.... (Also, I agree with your comment that Poision should be SE against steel. Acid > metal).

    1. However, those Pikachu costumes are clearly there for contest-related lulz. We were expected to take the Ukulele Pichu SERIOUSLY. With that said, two pages is indeed overkill. How about just giving me my... I mean giving us our Mega Milotic already instead?

    2. Yeah true, no one really cares if it's Contest related, even if it may be involved in the Amie.... Well you probably won't get our MegaMilotic for a while but it shall come. I'm debating myself whether MegaSharpedo and MegaCamelrupt will be any good (well, better at least even if not OU material...Sharpedo can maybe tilt over, not sure about Camelrupt no matter what they do) or if they'll fuck it up somehow.

  3. Yeah, Steel/Psychic really suffered more than the other subtypings. Now Steel/Fairy is the god-tier typing instead.
